Verizon has released its first geo-targeted augmented reality (AR) experience for customers, with the faster 5G service in Snapchat. The wireless provider gives 5G customers the chance to see a virtual performance by Black Pumas singer Eric Burton outside the New York Public Library in Manhattan.
Verizon customers with 5G smartphones who open Snapchat and use the Verizon filter will see a 3D Bitmoji version of Burton dancing to the band Black Pumas’ song “Colors” around the New York Public library. The filter uses Snapchat’s Landmark Lens technology for a geo-targeted AR experience. This means that a stationary object or person can “come to life”, can move or talk, for example.
The campaign received attention from many different media such as: Mobile Marketer, Newsbreak and Adweek.
