The Karel de Grote Hogeschool in Antwerp is using VR training for nursing students. This way they learn to pick up, prepare and administer medication to patients.
During the VR training they are chosen between four patients; child, pregnant woman, older woman and adult man. Each of these patients has its own procedure established. In the virtual environment, hand hygiene rules must be applied correctly and identification must be checked, among other things. At the end of the training, the students receive a report stating what went well and what did not.
In the future, the VR training will be further developed. For example, by adding a very skinny patient who needs to be treated differently. This VR training improves education for nursing students. Because the gap between internship and classroom is reduced.
