Spotify launches Virtual Island on the Roblox platform
Spotify has become the first music streaming platform to enter the Metaverse realm by unveiling its virtual island on the Roblox platform. With this activation, Spotify wants to provide various fans and artists around the world a place to explore new music, merchandise, and artwork.
Features of the Spotify’s Island
As per the teaser images released, the virtual island consists of various shades of green from Spotify’s logo. The company mentions in the press release that users will have the opportunity to collect the heart-shaped ‘Like’ icon, which can be exchanged for merchandise.
Throughout the year, users will get to see various themed experiences within the island filled with exclusive content, artist interactions, and mini-games. The first themed experience fans can expect on Spotify Island is K-Park, a homage to all things K-Pop.
On the monetization side of things, Spotify says that it’s working on an easy opportunity for artists to connect with fans and partner with Spotify on creating in-game virtual merchandise and that a percentage of the revenue from merchandise sales will go directly to the artists.
Activities for players on Spotify Island
According to the press release, Roblox users can create, share, and play games with their friends. Furthermore, in this interactive space, users can create new sounds, participate in various quests, and win exclusive merchandise.
One of the fascinating activities is that players can enjoy an immersive audio experience by creating music beats using Spotify’s Soundtrap at the virtual beat-maker stations.
According to morningconsult survey, more than 61% of the millennials said they would be interested in attending a live concert in the Metaverse, while an equal share said the same for having a digital avatar represent them.
With the establishment of a virtual island, Spotify looks forward to competing with Epic Games’ Fortnite which managed to draw more than 12 million Fortnite players during the 2020 concert hosted by an American rapper Travis Scott.
