Paramount Pictures collaborated with Jack in the box to create a Snapchat AR Lens to promote the Sonic ‘’The Hedgehog movie’’.
With the Augmented Reality lens Snapchat users will be able to join Sonic on his adventure to save the world while visiting various world-famous locations like the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.
With the gamified-lens Snapchatters can not only join Sonic on his journey, but they can also buy tickets to the movie or watch a video about Sonic. When they are in the vicinity of one of the famous locations, the two options will appear on the screen thanks to Snapchat’s shoppable AR technology. As soon as you are on location, you will be able to gather Sonic’s famous golden rings by passing through them.
Both the movie and the Snapchat campaign received amazing responses on Social media. Snapchat users and Sonic fanatics found the Lens enjoyable and most importantly exciting. The positive reaction was supported by the movie’s strong box office performance as it became the highest-grossing video game movie adaptation ever, bringing in over 57 million in the opening weekend. This proves once more, that AR is becoming more and more important in the marketing world.
