Singapore General Hospital | Virtual Reality Training
Singapore General Hospital is using Virtual Reality to train its nurses in cannulation technique. A team of SGH nurses along with Serious Gamer Asia and Microtube Technologies, has developed an immersive gamified training module called IV NIMBLE.
The module comprises a virtual patient avatar that nurses can use to practice communication skills, a 3D-printed hand that simulates the texture of human skin, and a pressure sensor glove to measure cannulation pressure. Additionally, it collects and displays data through an analytics dashboard for further evaluation.
The VR training helps nurses to become more confident and more equipped in cannula technique. IV NIMBLE’s future versions will incorporate VR training for other invasive procedures, including venipuncture for blood collection and chest tube insertion.
