Rolls Royce is the supplier of the largest airplane-engine on the market and trains mechanics with virtual reality. More mechanics need to be trained to keep up with the annual growth in air traffic.
Mechanics practice mounting the engine in an airplane and how to install individual parts in the engine in Rolls-Royce’s virtual training. The advantage of the training is that the engine does not have to be physically present, and the trainees also do not have to be physically present in a factory.
The VR training offers flexibility and a more efficient way of learning. Technicians can train more often in recurring scenarios, even if they are not in the same room as the others. This provides more flexibility and faster learning opportunities. The VR simulation provides an opportunity to “learn whilst working” environment for the technicians which helps improve their performance by performing iterations.
