A unique collaboration between museums and colleges in the Netherlands and Germany led to an immersive scavenger hunt covering 8 locations. Urging young people to solve the mystery of Sofia while learning about history and culture using augmented reality and other new tech.
This augmented reality game called ‘Sofias Smuggling Cross-Border Hunt’ aims to use new technology to draw young people to the museum. Inspired by Pokemon GO the game uses locations on your map, mining games like puzzles and immersive storytelling to draw a younger crowd. In each museum a different part of the story will be unlocked and the whole story can only be told by visiting all locations.
The game launched this month and has been widely reported in both countries. A unique collaboration helps traditional entities make the transition to digital experiences.
