Atari founder Nolan Bushnell is launching NFTs using augmented reality. The set of NFTs called The Arcade OG Series is an ethereum based token and a collectible. Bushnell collaborated with MakersPlace to release the NFT set, starting October 12th.
NFTs are tokens that are used to show ownership of a digital item. NFTs are usually nothing more than a video clip or a digitalized object, however, every collectible from the Arcade OG series comes with an AR integrated experience that lets the user place and view the 3D rendering in any real world space. The NFT project takes it a step further, pairing NFT purchases with real live rewards, such as a visit from Bushnell or a signed original Atari console.
Atari also plans to release its own NFT marketplace in the future, focusing on video games. Bushnell’s intention is to explore more NFT projects in the future. The NFT market continues to surge, reaching over $2.5bn halfway through 2021, while only selling around $100m total in 2021.
