Bacardi, the American spirits brand best known for their white rum, partnered with BBDO NY and the charity Lonely Whale to create an augmented reality filter to combat and raise awareness for the growing problem of single use plastic pollution.
To support the campaign BBDO NY made special drink coasters with QR codes on them. When Snapchat users scan the coasters, an animated glass will appear with fish and plastic straws in it, showing the damage of single use plastic on the oceans. The animation raises awareness for the issue of plastic in our oceans and shows how Bacardi are turning used plastic into vinyl records for a second life.
Bacardi and Lonely Whale hope to eliminate a total of 1 billion straws by 2020 with this initiative. They also hope that by making the initiative public and shareable more companies will also participate in the fight against plastic waste.
