The airport. A place filled with excitement as well as stress. It is busy place. People are in a hurry or have all the time in the world. The stores of the Dutch airport, Schiphol, are sometimes missed in the haste. Therefore Schiphol Airport Retail wished to add something to their stores to persuade people to enter. It also had to be a nice experience to get people out of the crowd.
Solution
With the use of AR, customers in the stores of Schiphol Airport Retail can celebrate a small party every time they enter. An employee of the store places a virtual gift somewhere in the store with the created AR application. The gift opens and virtual balloons fly everywhere. The customer must hit the balloons to earn a discount. The customer can then exchange the discount of 5%, 10%, or 15% at the cash register.
The AR application can be used anywhere and can therefore be placed in a location of the employee’s choice. This prevents expensive bottles to be knocked over or congestion at shopping paths. Furthermore, the app can keep track of how often the game is used per day and per store.
Result
Not only is the AR app an experience that creates a small party among the crowds. The app also attracts people to the stores, the ultimate goal of the application.
