Question

The German retail company, METRO, is a major international player with a continuous demand for new staff. However, training new employees cost a lot of time and money. For this reason, Metro was looking for a way to improve their training process.

Solution

A virtual reality application has been developed as an addition to the training of new employees. Employees receive lessons about product placement, promotions and stickers within the app. There are multiple choice questions about the various topics and tutorials which can be used to practice within a virtual METRO store. The app is a combination of theory, knowledge, and practice through virtual reality. Every new employee receives a cardboard that can be used to launch the app at home.

Result

The app prepares employees for their first day of work. They also get to know more about their new employer and the work they will be doing. Together with METRO’s House of Learning department, a process has been developed to validate the results. At this moment the application is being rolled out in five countries. The first results are expected halfway through 2019. From there, the application is prepared for a worldwide launch.
