The client

Huawei, one of the world’s biggest telecom and network companies is betting big on 5G. Pushing for a global roll-out, the company is looking to create awareness under the government, companies and the general public.

The question

Relevant use cases are needed to convince the target audience to invest in 5G. Huawei & Eventrent came to us to help create experiences to explain 5G in a simple yet effective manner. These experiences should be scalable, portable and easy to use because Huawei was targeting the whole of Europe.

The concept
To help Huawei conquer Europe with their ‘5G is Now’ campaign we founded the ‘5G Experience Agency’ together with our logistics partner Eventrent. We developed multiple experiences to showcase the power of 5G.
5G Race
We created a race game using a RC controlled car which players could control from a playseat connected to Oculus Rift. The Rift streamed video from a camera on top of the RC Card via the 5G & 4G network where the latter was much slower to respond. Thus illustrating the advantages of 5G when operating remote machinery. Other concepts included:

The execution

A setup with two Playseats where users wear VR headsets. One of the Playseats and headsets is connected to a remote controlled car with a 4G connection, the other one is connected to a 5G connection. The cars have mounted cameras which send live video to the headsets. Players can use steering inputs to steer the remote controlled cars around a race track. The first to make it around the track wins the race.

The Result

Because of the VR race game the 5G network was introduced in an innovative way and the event had a good start. The event will take place in multiple other countries, so that the advantages of the 5G network will be known worldwide.
VR surveillance

We set-up a livestream from a 360 camera attached to a drone. Using the incredible speed of the 5G network to stream to VR headsets without any issue. Allowing for a great way of surveilling large or remote areas.

VR livestream

Setting up a 360 camera at a huge music festival allowed visitors to be in the middle of the action, go back stage or relive a missed concert. Showcasing the potential of 5G and VR for entertainment.

VR Game
A VR game for Icaros simulator allowing users to play an awesome game flying through space while learning about the benefits of 5G.
