Earlier this month Minecraft teased her fans with what looked like an upcoming AR experience for smartphones. More information was promised to arrive May 17th. They kept their promise and followed up with the reveal of Minecraft Earth.
In the game players will be able to create their world in an above and beneath the real-world environment. Using a build plate which players can fix to any flat surface, players are free to start crafting or mining their way through reality. There is also the option to convert the build plate into life-size scale, this gives players the option to walk through their project as they would be in the original game. Microsoft will be hosting a closed beta of Minecraft Earth this summer with a full release planned for late 2019.
Even if you are not a fan of the original game, it is easy to see the potential behind Minecraft Earth. The game will take full advantage of AR, by actually building a new layer of reality across the globe.
