London University | Virtual Reality Training
A London University is using Virtual Reality to train aspiring doctors on various emergency procedures during cardiovascular events such as cardiac arrest or an asthma attack. VR training will boost students’ confidence while dealing with real life incidents.
The Virtual Reality experience consists of various training scenarios where an actor is leading a cardiac arrest for the first time, who breaks the fourth wall to ask various medics questions about what to do next. Then, the students are asked to make a choice and see the consequences of their decisions. Each scenario lasts between 10-15 minutes.
Professor Amir Sam, head of Imperial College’s School of Medicine, said the process was vital as it enabled students to become “active participants” rather than passive observers.
