LEGO and Epic Games partnering up to build an Metaverse for kids
Like many other companies, Lego is finally jumping on the Metaverse bandwagon. Lego has officially announced that the Lego Group and Epic Games are going to be partnering up to build an immersive and playful Metaverse for kids.
A family-friendly Metaverse
According to the press release, the Metaverse would be a family-friendly digital experience that gives children access to various creator tools to unleash their creativity.
Niels B Christiansen, CEO of The LEGO Group, said, “The Metaverse will help children learn life-long skills such as collaboration, creativity, and communication.”
Tim Sweeney, CEO and Founder of Epic Games, said, “We are excited to come together to build a space in the Metaverse that’s fun, entertaining, and made for kids and families.”
Privacy and safety in the Metaverse
The Lego Group and Epic Games believe that building such a space in the Metaverse will result in shaping three principles: protecting children’s right to play by making safety and wellbeing a priority, safeguarding children’s privacy by putting their best interests first, and empowering children and adults with tools that give them control over their digital experience.
Both Lego and Epic Games have prior experience in shaping gaming environments for kids. Epic Games has experience in building an open-virtual world called Fortnite, while Lego has been a pioneer in building block toys for kids worldwide. It would be exciting to see how the Metaverse for kids will turn out to be.
