Warner Bros launches web 3 experience, Movieverse, adds LOTR as the first film

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has just partnered with blockchain company, Eluvio to bring the fantasy movie, “Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”, to its web 3 platform, Movieverse. The company has created limited edition NFTs based on the film.

What is the WB Movieverse?

WB Movieverse is an online marketplace where fans can trade movie NFTs. The first NFT is the original LOTR that will give fans the access to behind the scenes footage and photos inspired by the film. The move has come after Disney’s CEO Bob Chapek indicated his interest in bringing the company to web 3.0

WB Movieverse clearly demonstrates the company’s ongoing innovation in attracting and engaging fans with novel experiences. They achieve this by giving them exclusive access to unseen footage, dialogue, and merchandise.

LOTR on a Web 3.0 platform

The LOTR NFT consists of two bundles: the Premiere Mystery Edition and the Premiere Epic Edition. The former includes an extended edition of the film in 4K UHD, over eight hours of special features from the movie, an image gallery, and hidden location-specific AR collectables.

Whereas the latter consists of all the features from the mystery edition along with key art for three film locations: The Shire, Rivendell, and the Mines of Moria. The Mystery Edition features a random selection of them. The Epic Edition features additional image galleries that are not included in the Mystery Edition.

WB and Eluvio are minting 999 Lord of the Rings Edition copies for $100 each and 10,000 Mystery Edition copies for $30 each.

According to Michelle Munson, CEO, and co-founder of Eluvio,

“Fans of The Lord of the Rings can now acquire, participate, and trade in an epic living media experience that will undoubtedly surprise and delight them. It’s truly designed for a mass consumer audience, not just Web3 enthusiasts, which is why it should, and does, feel so remarkable and engaging. At the same time, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is setting a new bar for innovation in the distribution of home movies by demonstrating the potential of Web3.”

How to participate in the experience?

To acquire the LOTR NFT, users can simply visit the website – https://web3.wb.com/ and check for both the bundles. As per today, ultra rare – 999 Premier Epic Editions have been sold out, however, the Mystery Edition bundle is still available for users to buy.

Additionally, to purchase one of the NFTs, users must create an Eluvio media wallet that acts as a digital vault and lets consumers stream and purchase content. According to decrypt, The Lord of the Rings NFT cannot be sold, so it acts as basically a home video release that has “more experiential, immersive menus”

Apart from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Warner Bros Discovery along with NFT platform Nifty are planning to announce a new partnership for Game of Thrones digital collectibles, which will allow fans to collect unique avatars inspired by the HBO series.
