Danish researchers use virtual reality to encourage more people to get vaccinated against COVID. In an experiment in the capital city of Copenhagen, the player maneuvers around a COVID infected crowd in the city square.
Participants wear VR headsets in order to play an elderly person walking through the city center. The participants have to avoid red-clothed bypassers in the city. These red-clothed characters represent infected people. Blue-clothed characters are safe to pass by, these people are vaccinated.
According to Robert Brohm, professor of psychology at Copenhagen university, using a VR experience increases people’s intention to get vaccinated, “These initiatives can be used in the doctor’s office for example”, he said.
