Boeing will fly NASA crew members to the International Space Station in 2021. An astronaut going on a space trip has to endure a lot of training. Boeing uses virtual reality to train the upcoming astronauts.
Thanks to the improved resolutions of VR headsets, it is possible to recreate a cockpit that is sharp enough to read every little detail. Boeing’s VR training courses cover all aspects of the astronauts’ mission, from takeoff to landing and all the steps in between.
Reading all buttons and switches in the cockpit is important and, thanks to the Varjo headset, this is now possible. Virtual reality training has the advantage that astronauts can train remotely from anywhere. Boeing uses the VR training only for astronauts right now, but sees the same type of training available for other aircraft and safety situations in the future.
