Automotive company BMW has been using virtual reality for design and prototyping for a while already, but they now also use it to train employees with this technology. The aim is to train managers virtually so that they can pass on the knowledge they have learnt to the operational staff.
Employees learn to organize factories more efficiently based on lean production. In addition, training is given on safe working and the assembly of new products. The company uses 3D scans for a realistic environment. The input of the employees is used for the continuous improvement of the training courses.
According to BMW, employees can train at their own pace, commitment is high and the training ensures increased efficiency. In the future, the company sees space for VR (and AR) for every step in the process; from design to production to maintenance.
