The Sheriff’s office in Monmouth County, New Jersey, is the first in the state to use virtual reality to train members of law enforcement. This technology will help police officers to prepare themselves better for situations when they face them in the real world.
The officers are equipped with a headset, backpack and controllers in order to participate in the training. Different scenarios can be trained. From traffic accidents or domestic calls to active shooter situations. The actions of the officer will determine what the proceeding steps of the training will be.
All Monmouth County officers have started training using the new technology. According to the County’s prosecutor, this training will make sure that the officers receive the highest quality training possible. “The VR training program is an innovative way to prepare our officers for scenarios they may encounter in the field.” He said.
